The hospital reported 24 deaths in 24 hours on Monday, and on Tuesday, the number increased to 31 deaths in 48 hours

In a somewhat distasteful developmental, Member of Parliament (MP) from the ruling Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) in Maharashtra, Hemant Patil made the Dean of the Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital, Shyamrao Wakode clean the filthy toilet of the hospital, where 31 people have died in 48 hours.

After the 31 deaths in the hospital, MP Hemant Patil today visited the hospital and took stock of the situation there.

Patil caught hold of Shyamrao Wakode and ordered him to clean the dirty toilet.

The video, that has now gone viral, shows the MP holding a container, a bottle, and a toilet brush on a window while the Dean drains the toilet. Then, while Wakode sprays the toilet with dirty water using a wiper, the MP can be seen spraying water into the toilet.

It may be mentioned here that, the hospital reported 24 deaths in 24 hours on Monday, and on Tuesday, the number increased to 31 deaths in 48 hours. 71 people are reportedly in critical condition.

However, Wakode had denied claims of medical malpractice and asserted that there was no lack of either doctors or medications. He had claimed that although the patients received the required care, they did not benefit from it.

Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Director, Medical Education and Research, said that a committee has been formed to investigate the deaths.
